Please contact your bank for these details before arriving in-country.
Before you depart, you will be asked to submit your Travel Insurance details through the booking holder's Traveller Hub account through the Inspiring Vacations website. This is to ensure that we have this information readily available should we ever need it.
Health & Wellness
All travellers need to be in good physical health to participate fully on this tour. Our group tours are designed to immerse you in incredible sights and activities, often involving walking tours and self-exploration. To ensure you can fully embrace every moment, we recommend a moderate level of fitness for all of our tours.
When selecting your tour please make sure you have read through the itinerary carefully and assess your ability to manage and enjoy our style of travel. Please note that in the assessment of our Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader or local representative a traveller is unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group, we reserve the right to exclude them from all or part of a tour without refund.
You should consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information or for any necessary vaccinations before departure. We recommend that you carry a first aid kit as well as any personal medical requirements in their original packaging as they may not easily be obtained while travelling. If you are carrying medication, ensure you check your government's foreign travel advice for any local restrictions or requirements. For the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others, if you are unwell before travelling, please stay at home and contact us to make alternative arrangements and we would be more than happy to assist you.
Important Information for Customers with Mobility Limitations
We want to ensure everyone has a fantastic and inclusive experience on our tours. If you require the use of a mobility aid, such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair, please disclose this information at the time of booking.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for the entire group, our tours are designed with a specific itinerary in mind. This may involve moderate walking, uneven terrain, or stairs. While some itinerary adjustments may not be possible, we'll do our best to find alternative solutions within the planned activities whenever possible.
Open communication helps us ensure your tour is a perfect fit and it allows your local guide or tour leader to assist you where possible.
Information for CPAP Users
If you use a CPAP machine, please let us know at the time of booking. Some portions of our itinerary, like overnight cruises or camping tours, may have limited access to power outlets. In such cases, we recommend travelling with portable battery packs.
Certain activities, like overnight journeys on board smaller vessels, may not be suitable for CPAP use due to space limitations or noise concerns. We can discuss these potential limitations upfront and help you make informed decisions about your tour.
Please ensure that you check the voltage used throughout the countries you are travelling to and if it will be compatible with your machines. For example, Japan runs on 100 volts vs Australia at 220-240 volts, meaning a voltage converter might be required.
Documentation
Tour documentation is typically emailed to the lead passenger or your travel agent between 14-30 days before your scheduled departure. This will include your final hotel list.
Child Policy
Children must be 5 years old or above and share a room with parents at all times. Children are charged the same price as adults.

Starting Point
Your starting hotel may differ from the original itinerary. Please refer to your final documentation which will be provided approximately 14-30 days before departure for your confirmed hotel list. If you need to book pre-tour accommodation independently, we suggest you do this only once you have received your final hotel list for your tour. If you would like to book something sooner, we recommend that you book using a flexible rate that can be cancelled through your chosen third-party provider without penalty.
Travellers will arrive at various times throughout the day depending on flights booked. If arriving before standard check-in time, which is generally 3pm, you are welcome to leave your luggage at hotel reception and explore your surroundings until check-in becomes available as there are no scheduled activities on day 1 of the itinerary. The hotel may grant early check-in, however this is strictly subject to availability and at the hotel’s discretion.
Note: if you need to apply for a tourist visa before departure, we recommend using the details of the suggested hotel on the tour itinerary if you wish to fulfil this before the release of your final tour documentation. Please refer to our visa section for more information on whether or not a visa is required for your destination.
Arrival Details
Airport transfers are included as part of your package, so long as you are arriving as per the purchased itinerary. If you have purchased an extension, either pre or post-tour, the applicable transfer service will be forfeited from your package and you will need to make your arrangements to the starting hotel.
Where the service remains included, on arrival look out for a representative holding an “Inspiring Vacations” sign after you have collected your baggage and exited customs. If you cannot find them, try to avoid wandering around and instead stay in one place and call the emergency contact number on your documentation.
Where the service has been forfeited due to an early arrival and extended stay, we do offer airport transfers at an additional cost which can be booked via your Traveller Hub. We recommend you wait until you receive your final documentation to book transfers as your start and end hotels will only be confirmed at this point. Please note that if you are choosing to book an independent airport transfer service, your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader cannot be held responsible for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise, nor can they resolve any concerns that you may have with your transfer service.
To make your way to your hotel from the airport, there are various connections by train or limousine bus. The airport information desks can provide helpful advice, too. Most destinations offer ride-share services, such as Uber or Didi.
If you're having any problems finding the hotel, please ring the hotel directly or you can phone our customer support team for on-tour assistance.
Welcome Meeting Instructions
You are welcome to arrive at any time on Day 1 of your tour and the day is at your leisure. As this tour is a combination of smaller tours, you will have a welcome meeting on days 8 and 18.
In Case of Emergency
Although we strive to deliver exceptional holiday experiences, unforeseen circumstances can occasionally arise during travel. If any issues arise during your tour, it's essential to promptly communicate them to your tour leader or local representative. This ensures they can take immediate action to address the problem and mitigate any negative impact on the remainder of your journey.
We understand that there may be instances where your tour leader or local representative is unable to resolve a situation to your satisfaction. In such cases, we encourage you to request that the tour leader or local representative escalate the matter to their direct manager for further assistance.
When your final tour documentation is released, this will include an emergency contact for our local travel partner while you are on tour. If this is not included in your documentation, you will receive this on arrival during your welcome meeting.

Travelling in a group
Travelling in a group means you will experience both the pleasures and perhaps at times, some of the frustrations of travelling with people you don’t know. The good news is you all have at least one thing in common: a love of travel and exploration. Your fellow travellers will probably come from different parts of the world, and fall into different age groups. We ask you to be understanding of the various needs and preferences of your group—patience with your fellow travellers is sometimes required for the overall benefit of the group.
We kindly ask that when you are requested to be at a place at a certain time that you respect this request from your tour leader or local guide. Due to privacy reasons, we are unable to provide you with contact details and any personal information about your fellow travellers booked on your trip before departure.
Community Guidelines
Inspiring Vacations does not tolerate any kind of violence, harassment (whether physical, verbal or sexual), or disrespect toward fellow travellers, our teams (Inspiring Vacations Tour Leaders and local expert guides) or local communities.
Any behaviour that prevents your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader from continuing the itinerary as planned, breaks local laws or opposes any of these guidelines, may result in Inspiring Vacations removing you from the tour.
If something concerns you during your travels, please speak to your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader immediately. Alternatively, when you are on-tour and require immediate support you can contact our Customer Support team and select the “On-Tour” option when listening to the options.
In addition all travellers must adhere to the Katarina Line vessel rules which can be found as follows: https://katarina-line.com/faq?category=5
Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader vs. Local Guide
While both tour leaders and local guides enrich your travel experience, their roles differ. Tour leaders, who often accompany you for the entire tour, handle logistics, ensure smooth sailing of the itinerary, and act as your point of contact for any concerns. They might provide general information about destinations, but in-depth historical or cultural knowledge often comes from local guides. Local guides, frequently native to the area, lead tours at specific sites or attractions, offering a deeper understanding of the local history, art, or way of life.
Coach Transportation
The size of your coach will comfortably accommodate your group. There's usually room for some extra seats, ensuring a relaxing journey. Your luggage will be safely stored either underneath the coach or in a dedicated trailer.
While the exact coach style may vary depending on the departure, all our coaches offer comfortable seating. Keep in mind that Wi-Fi and charging outlets might not always be available. To stay connected and avoid dead batteries, we recommend fully charging your devices beforehand or bringing a portable charger.
For longer journeys, we'll make sure to include ample restroom breaks along the way, so you can freshen up and recharge at your convenience, as facilities are not on-board the coach.
Itinerary Changes
Sometimes, unexpected things can happen, like unpredictable weather or higher-than-usual crowds at attractions. In these situations, your tour leader or cruise captain might need to adjust the itinerary slightly to improve your overall experience.
This flexibility ensures you get the most out of your tour! Your tour leader and captain will always keep you informed of any changes and explain the reasoning behind them. Remember, when travelling with a group, sometimes going with the flow can lead to even more amazing experiences.
Staying Connected
If you want to stay connected and access reliable internet while on tour, there are a few options available. It is possible to purchase a virtual sim and we recommend contacting your mobile phone provider for assistance. You can add a roaming data plan to your existing phone contract is another option, albeit an expensive one. You will need to arrange this before departure.
We also recommend downloading WhatsApp and using this to communicate with other group members while on tour, and of course, after the tour if you’d like to stay in touch. Our tour leaders may also use this as a means of communicating essential tour information with you, as well as if you choose to add-on transfers to your booking, as your driver may use this to confirm arrangements with you.
Getting Around
This tour covers Italy, Croatia, and Greece, combining high-speed rail, guided coach travel, and small-ship cruises.
In Italy, you will travel independently using the high-speed rail network between major cities. Train stations can be large and busy, and you will be responsible for managing your luggage throughout the journey, including navigating platforms, boarding trains, and making transfers. While unescorted, detailed travel documents will be provided to assist you along the way.
In Croatia, you will be accompanied by a guide and travel by coach across the mainland, with regular comfort stops for refreshments, stretching your legs, and bathroom breaks. You will then board a small-ship cruise along the Adriatic Coast. These ships offer a more intimate experience but may have steep staircases and compact cabins. Be prepared to carry your own luggage when embarking and disembarking.
In Greece, you will have a guide and travel by coach to explore the mainland before boarding a cruise through the Greek Islands. The cruise offers a comfortable way to experience multiple destinations, but you will need to manage your luggage during embarkation and disembarkation. Some ports may require using small tender boats to reach the shore.
Travel Times
While exploring Italy, Croatia and Greece some days will feature longer travel times as we journey through stunning landscapes and connect iconic destinations. Though these travel days can feel lengthy and occasionally a bit uncomfortable, our comfortable coach, scenic views, and planned breaks will help make the journey more manageable, ensuring you're ready for the next unforgettable experience.
Hotel Ratings
Star ratings can differ between countries, reflecting diverse standards and amenities. To give you the most accurate picture possible, we don't just rely on a single source for hotel ratings. We go beyond by researching various trusted travel websites like Tripadvisor and Booking.com. This allows us to analyse a wider range of genuine customer reviews and experiences, giving you a well-rounded understanding of the hotel's typical star rating.
This means you can book with confidence, knowing the hotel has a strong track record of satisfied guests.
Accommodation Details
In Italy, we have carefully selected comfortable 3-star hotels to enhance your independent travel experience. These accommodations are conveniently located near major transport hubs for easy access to the high-speed rail network. While some hotels may be outside the historic city centers, they provide a quiet retreat after a day of exploration. You also have the option to upgrade to 4-star hotels for the Italy portion of your trip if you would prefer more premium accommodation. It’s important to note that European hotel star ratings may differ from what you might expect in Western standards.
In Croatia, you will stay in a mix of 4-star hotels on the mainland, chosen for their comfort and proximity to key attractions. During the small-ship cruise along the Adriatic Coast, you’ll stay in well-appointed cabins offering a more intimate and unique travel experience. Cabins on small ships are typically compact, and while the amenities are comfortable, they may be simpler than those found in larger ships.
In Greece, accommodations on the mainland will be in 3-4-star hotels, carefully chosen for their comfort and location. While some may be situated outside city centres for a more peaceful stay, they offer excellent facilities. During the Greek Islands cruise, you will enjoy comfortable exterior cabin accommodation with modern amenities. As with any cruise, cabin sizes may be smaller than traditional hotel rooms.
Across all destinations, we aim to provide a balance of comfort and cultural immersion. While accommodations may vary slightly in style and amenities, each offers a welcoming environment to relax after your day's adventures.
Luggage Requirements
For this multi-country journey through Italy, Croatia, and Greece, it is essential to pack light and ensure your luggage is manageable, as you will be responsible for handling it at various points throughout the trip. Each mode of transport—rail, coach, and cruise—has specific luggage considerations to keep in mind:
Italy (Independent Rail Travel): Train stations can be busy, and you will need to carry your luggage through platforms, up and down stairs, and on and off trains without assistance. We recommend using a suitcase with sturdy wheels and a lightweight carry-on bag for daily essentials. Be mindful that luggage storage on high-speed trains is limited, especially for larger suitcases.
Croatia (Coach and Small-Ship Cruise): During the coach portion, there will be space for one medium-sized suitcase per person to be stored in the luggage hold, with a small bag allowed onboard for personal items. On the small-ship cruise, cabin space is limited, so we recommend packing efficiently. You will be required to carry your luggage during embarkation and disembarkation, sometimes over uneven surfaces or steep gangways.
Greece (Coach and Greek Islands Cruise): Similar to Croatia, coach travel allows for one medium suitcase per person, and a smaller bag for use during the day. On the cruise, you will need to manage your luggage during boarding and disembarkation, including at ports where tender boats may be used to reach the shore. Compact, soft-sided luggage is ideal for easier handling.
General Guidelines:
Luggage Allowance: We recommend bringing one medium-sized suitcase (no more than 20kg/44lbs) and one carry-on bag per person.
Mobility Considerations: You will need to lift and carry your luggage on and off trains, ships, and through some hotel lobbies. Ensure your bags are light enough for you to manage independently.
Packing Tips: Opt for versatile clothing suitable for both city exploration and coastal cruising. Lightweight, breathable fabrics are best for the warmer months, and don’t forget essentials like sun protection and comfortable walking shoes.
By packing light and smart, you’ll enjoy greater ease while navigating the diverse transport and destinations on this unforgettable journey.

Climate
Traveling through Italy, Croatia, and Greece offers a diverse climate across regions and seasons. In Italy, the weather varies between iconic cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice. Rome experiences hot, dry summers (June to August), with temperatures often reaching 30-35°C (86-95°F), while winters (December to February) are mild and damp, averaging 8-15°C (46-59°F). Florence, located inland, has similar summer temperatures but feels hotter due to less coastal breeze. Winters are cooler, with occasional frost and temperatures ranging from 3-12°C (37-54°F). Venice, in the northeast, has humid summers in the high 20s°C (80s°F) and cold, foggy winters that can drop to around 0-5°C (32-41°F). Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) offer pleasant, mild weather across these cities—perfect for sightseeing without the summer crowds.
Croatia experiences a Mediterranean climate along its coastline and a continental climate inland. Coastal cities like Dubrovnik and Split enjoy warm, sunny summers (June to August) with temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s°C (80s°F), while winters (December to February) are cooler but rarely freezing. Inland regions, including Zagreb, have hotter summers and colder winters, with occasional snowfall. The Dalmatian coast is particularly pleasant in spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October), offering warm weather with fewer crowds.
Greece features a classic Mediterranean climate with long, hot summers and mild, wet winters. Popular islands such as Santorini and Crete experience high temperatures in summer (June to August), often reaching 35°C (95°F) or higher, though sea breezes offer some relief. Mainland areas, including Athens, can be especially hot during these months. Winters (December to February) are mild along the coast but colder in northern regions and mountainous areas, where snow is possible. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) offer pleasant, moderate weather, ideal for exploring historical sites and coastal areas.
Currency and ATMs
In Italy, Greece, and Croatia, the currency used is the Euro. ATMs are widely available in cities, towns, and popular tourist areas, accepting major international credit and debit cards. In urban centers like Rome, Athens, and Dubrovnik, most hotels, restaurants, and shops accept card payments. However, it’s advisable to carry some cash, especially when visiting smaller villages, local markets, or using public transport, where card acceptance may be limited.
In Italy, cash is useful for small purchases like coffee, gelato, or public restroom fees. ATMs (often labeled "Bancomat") are easy to find, but it’s a good idea to avoid standalone machines and instead use those connected to major banks for better security and lower fees.
In Greece, while cards are accepted in most urban and tourist areas, cash remains the preferred payment method in rural regions and on smaller islands. ATMs are common in cities like Athens and Thessaloniki, but availability may be limited in remote areas, so it’s wise to withdraw cash in advance.
In Croatia, ATMs are accessible in most towns and cities, including along the Dalmatian Coast. Card payments are accepted in many establishments, but smaller businesses and local markets may only accept cash. While Croatia recently adopted the Euro (2023), older currency references to the Kuna may still be seen.
For all three countries, inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid card issues and consider carrying small denominations for easier transactions.
Food and Allergies
Travelling through Italy, Greece, and Croatia offers a delightful array of culinary experiences, reflecting each country's rich cultural heritage. In Italy, savor classics like pasta, risotto, and wood-fired pizza, alongside regional specialties such as Roman carbonara, Florentine bistecca (steak), and Venetian seafood risotto. Greece is known for its fresh Mediterranean flavors—moussaka (layered eggplant and meat dish), souvlaki (grilled meat skewers), and Greek salad with feta and olives. Croatia’s cuisine blends Mediterranean and Central European influences, offering dishes like peka (slow-cooked meat and vegetables), black risotto (cuttlefish ink risotto), and fresh seafood along the Dalmatian Coast.
While travelling with Inspiring Vacations, you'll enjoy iconic sightseeing while sampling the local cuisines. Many meals will be shared with your group, but not all are included—offering you the flexibility to explore and dine as you choose. If you have dietary requirements or food allergies, please inform our Customer Support Team before departure. Your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide can suggest local eateries and provide information on key ingredients. While every effort will be made to accommodate dietary needs, it remains your responsibility to ensure that you avoid any problematic ingredients during your trip.
Local Customs
In Italy, Greece, and Croatia, understanding local customs enhances your travel experience and fosters meaningful connections. In Italy, greetings typically involve a handshake, though close friends may exchange two kisses on the cheek, starting from the left. Italians value leisurely meals—lunch is usually between 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM, while dinner often begins around 8 PM or later. When visiting churches or religious sites, dress modestly by covering shoulders and knees, especially in historic cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice. Respect for Italian traditions, such as speaking softly in sacred spaces and waiting your turn in queues, is appreciated.
In Greece, a warm handshake is a common greeting, though friends may share a kiss on both cheeks. Greek culture places high importance on hospitality, and you may be offered food or drinks as a gesture of kindness. Meal times are later than in many other countries—lunch is typically between 1 PM and 3 PM, and dinner may start around 9 PM. When visiting monasteries or religious sites, modest attire is expected—women should cover their shoulders, and men should avoid wearing shorts. It is also customary to greet shopkeepers when entering or leaving a store.
In Croatia, a handshake is the typical form of greeting, with a kiss on both cheeks reserved for close acquaintances. Meal times are similar to those in Western Europe—lunch is usually served between 12 PM and 2 PM, while dinner is enjoyed from 7 PM onward. Croatians are proud of their cultural heritage, and it is customary to be respectful when discussing the country’s history. In smaller towns and on islands, businesses may close for a midday break. When visiting churches or historic sites, modest dress and quiet behavior are appreciated.
By respecting local customs and traditions in Italy, Greece, and Croatia, you’ll deepen your cultural understanding and create more meaningful travel experiences while fostering positive interactions with the locals.
Dress Code
In Italy, Greece, and Croatia, casual attire is generally acceptable, with smart-casual recommended for fine dining or formal occasions. In Italy, dressing neatly is appreciated, especially in cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice. When visiting churches or religious sites in all three countries, both men and women should cover shoulders and knees.
Lightweight clothing is ideal for the warm Mediterranean climate, with layers for cooler evenings. In Greece and Croatia, beachwear is suitable by the coast but not in towns or restaurants. Respecting local dress customs shows cultural sensitivity and enhances your travel experience.
Responsible Dining
Avoid consuming endangered species or items harvested unsustainably. Be respectful of local customs and food practices, and always tip fairly to support local workers. Responsible dining helps protect the environment and promotes the well-being of local communities.
Tipping Your Leader
A friendly reminder that tipping is not included in your package. Tipping is a customary practice and is often seen as a reward for good service. For many locals, tips provide an essential supplement to their income. If you're unsure about how much or who to tip, the following guidelines can help, based on local standards and feedback from previous travellers:
For Croatia the tipping suggestions are as follows:
Tipping reflects your satisfaction with the service provided by the guide/cruise manager, crew, and the overall tour experience. Crew gratuities are shared equally among all crew members. Tipping is voluntary and at the discretion of each participant. Both your local currency and the Euro are accepted.
Peak Travel Times
Peak travel times in Italy, Greece, and Croatia typically fall during the summer months (June to August). This period brings warm weather, bustling tourist sites, and higher prices, especially in popular destinations like Rome, Athens, and Dubrovnik. Coastal areas and islands are particularly busy as travellers flock to the Mediterranean’s beaches.
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) offer milder weather, fewer crowds, and a more relaxed experience while still enjoying pleasant temperatures. Winter (November to March) is the quietest season, with cooler weather and fewer tourists, though some coastal regions and islands may have limited services during this time.
For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons—April to June or September to October.
Safety and Security
Most national governments provide regularly updated foreign travel advice on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your own government's advice for the most up-to-date travel information before departure and ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all destinations and activities on your trip.
Your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader or local representative will accompany you on all included activities listed on the itinerary, however, you'll have some free time to explore on your own. While your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide will assist you as best they can with your requests and the options available outside your itinerary, please note Inspiring Vacations makes no representations about the safety of the activity or the standard of the operators running the activity. Please use your judgement when selecting an activity in your free time.
Please also note that your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it's deemed necessary due to safety concerns.
Apps to Download
Some useful apps you may want to consider downloading before your tour include Google Translate, the lens function is especially useful when wanting to read product labels, signs, and menus. Google Maps with offline maps downloaded is great for easy navigation without being reliant on wifi. Also consider downloading these local apps:
TheFork – Useful for making restaurant reservations, particularly in Italy and Greece, with reviews and booking discounts.
Moovit – Great for navigating public transport systems in major cities like Rome, Athens, and Split.
MyTAXI (now Bolt) – For easy ride-hailing in cities like Rome, Athens, and Dubrovnik.
We also recommend downloading WhatsApp before you leave and using this to communicate with other group members while on tour.
Post-Tour Feedback
Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a link to a post-purchase survey, which is your opportunity to share your feedback with us on your booking experience and interactions with our Sales and Customer Success teams. This feedback is invaluable to ensure that we are servicing our customers to the best of our ability.
Furthermore, towards the end of your travels and while you are in your destination, you will receive an email from us with a link to an in-depth trip survey. Your tour leader or local guide may also provide you with a QR code that you can scan using your device to access our survey straight away. It is very important to us that we hear from our customers to ensure that we continue to meet and exceed customers' expectations, so this will be your opportunity to let us know how your trip has been, what has worked well and potentially what could be improved.
Finishing Point
Your finishing hotel may differ from the original itinerary. Please refer to your final documentation which will be provided approximately 14-30 days before departure for your confirmed hotel list. If you need to book additional post-tour accommodation, please do so once you have the final hotel list. We recommend booking a flexible rate that can be changed or cancelled without penalty should there be any unforeseen changes to your booking.
Travellers will depart at various times throughout the day depending on flights booked. Check-out time is generally from 10am-12pm. You are welcome to leave your luggage at the hotel reception and spend your final moments of free time exploring the area or please speak with hotel staff if you would like to extend your check-out time. This service is subject to availability and will likely come at an additional cost payable directly.
