Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

We’ll depart Havana for Viñales after breakfast, stopping at the village of Jaimanitas to see the Gaudi-inspired community project, Fusterlandia. Named after the project’s founder and artist, José Rodríguez Fuster (also known as the ‘Picasso of the Caribbean’), Fuster converted his own home into an art museum by adorning it with mosaic tiles in the 70s, and over time, his neighbours offered their homes up to him to do the same. Every surface, from street signs to communal benches, have been decorated by Fuster himself or community members. We’ll wander around Fuster’s home and also have time to view the colourful streets of this neighbourhood. We’ll continue our drive towards the mountains and the province of Pinar del Rio.

The town of Viñales, approximately 2.5 hours from Fusterlandia, is one of Cuba's most picturesque towns in this province and is the gateway to the Sierra de los Organos mountains and Viñales Valley. The valley is surrounded by steep limestone hills, and the floor of the valley is a UNESCO heritage site. Farmers here still use traditional methods, either using oxen or by hand, to till the earth. The main crops are rice, corn, root vegetables (yuca, boniato, and malanga), and most famously some of Cuba's best tobacco

We’ll wander around the town, then learn how to make an iconic mojito, one of the most popular tipples in Cuba. Later in the afternoon we’ll have a salsa dance lesson to prepare us for a night out in this exciting town.

  •  Fusterlandia
  •  Viñales

After breakfast we’ll drive from Viñales along the Caribbean coast, to the city of Cienfuegos, which used to be known as the ‘Pearl of the South.’ Settled by the French and still containing traces of their influence, Cienfuegos is also known to be one of the most beautiful villages in Cuba. We’ll make a stop at the Bay of Pigs along the way, known as an excellent snorkelling spot, which can be enjoyed straight off the coast. Snorkelling gear is available to hire cheaply, but if water activities aren’t your thing, wander around and enjoy the natural scenery.

Arriving at Cienfuegos, you’ll notice French influences everywhere, especially around the main square and a very pretty boulevard that runs from the city centre, along the edge of the bay and to the end of the peninsula.

At the end of the peninsula, you'll find Palacio del Valle, a mansion built in 1913 by Italian architect, Alfredo Colli. The architectural style is a mixture but what is clear is that a great deal of expense went into its construction and decoration, and the result is nothing short of spectacular. It’s been bought and sold as a private home, a high-scale hotel and restaurant, and in 2000, it was declared a National Monument.

Today we bid farewell to Cienfuegos and drive approximately 1.5 hours to Trinidad, one of Cuba's most exciting cities. Its small and compact size means that attractions within the city can easily be visited on foot. Trinidad was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, but the beauty of this open-air museum  hasn’t been destroyed by over-tourism, the spirit (and architecture) of the city still resembles 1850.

We’ll experience a fun, interactive music and percussion lesson with a local maestro of music. This is a true highlight of the tour and a fantastic way to learn more about Cuban music, dance and rhythm, an integral part of the country’s culture.

We’ll end the day with a relaxing cocktail at sunset as a group, and then you’ll have the option of joining your tour leader and the group on an exploration of the city after dark, or if you prefer, go it alone and spend the evening as you wish. Trinidad is known for its lively nightlife and there are plenty of open air restaurants, bars, live music venues and dance shows to keep you entertained.

You can spend the day as you wish—there are more than 30 dive sites off Ancón, including Cayo Blanco, an island surrounded by coral reefs; deep-sea fishing and snorkelling, or of course, just enjoy the Caribbean sun and water and have a leisurely lunch at one of the luxe hotels. Your tour leader is happy to provide you with some recommendations.

There is a huge bronze statue of El Che, an eternal flame, and many of his personal items on display.

Tour Suitability

  • We use centrally located Cuban guesthouses (casas particulares) instead of hotels and our groups are often spread out over a number of different houses, as most only have 2-4 rooms, within walking distance of each other. Guesthouse rooms are generally quite basic but reasonably comfortable and very clean, and the families in Cuba will make you feel at home (see accommodation details, under Your Tour Experience for further information).
  • Power outages are common throughout Cuba but our experienced guides will help navigate these disruptions to minimise the impact on our tours.
  • This tour is suited to those with a sense of adventure and willingness to embrace every aspect of the Cuban way of living.
  • Cuba is best explored on foot so travellers should be able to manage 2-3 hours of walking and standing

Accommodation

The accommodation listed is subject to change. Any changes will be of an equal or higher standard.

Visas & Entry Requirements

Many countries require a visa and obtaining the correct visa for your tour and any countries you may transit through is your responsibility. We recommend you check your visa requirements as soon as you have booked your tour. This will ensure you have time to prepare your documents and for your visa application to be processed. You can check the visa entry requirements for your nationality via our page here:

https://inspiringvacations-8357211.hs-sites.com/visa-information

You’ll need a valid passport to travel internationally and most countries require your passport to have a minimum of 6 months validity, so remember to check the expiry date.

We need your passport information to get everything ready for your tour so the information on your booking must match your passport exactly. Please take care to provide the correct details. We recommend carrying a copy of the photo page of your passport while travelling and leaving a copy at home with family or friends.

Entry to Cuba

Most tourists visiting Cuba, need to obtain a Cuban Tourist Card, which is similar to a visa.  The card is valid for a stay of up to 90 days and you will be required to show this as you enter and exit Cuba. To obtain the card you can apply via your local Cuban Consulate before your departure either directly or via a third-party visa service.

Depending on the airline you're using for your trip to Cuba, it may be possible to acquire the tourist card at the airport from the airline on the day of your flight to Cuba. Please verify this information with your airline.

It is advisable to travel to Cuba through Canada, South/Central America or Europe. Individuals who have visited Cuba cannot take part in the ESTA Visa Waiver Program and must obtain a tourist visa for entry or transit through the United States.

Flying via Latin America

If you are flying from Latin America or the Caribbean (e.g. Santiago, Mexico, Panama) to Cuba you can purchase your visa at the airport during check-in for your flight to Cuba. The cost is approximately US$25-30 and can sometimes be paid with credit card in addition to the local currency. Please verify with your airline.

Flying via Canada

If you are flying from Canada the visa is usually included with your flight. Please verify with your airline.

The content on this page is provided for general information purposes and is subject to potential changes. It is your responsibility to acquire the necessary visa and travel details essential for entry, departure, and travel to each country or region you plan to visit during your trip. It is advisable to verify this information with the respective embassies and/or consulates.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is compulsory for entry into Cuba.  Please ensure your travel insurance policy covers Cuba as a destination.  If you are utilising credit card insurance please check that it will cover you for travel to Cuba and obtain a copy of the policy to carry with you as you may be asked to present a copy of your travel insurance on arrival in Havana.

We strongly recommend all travellers have a policy that also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage or personal effects. For international tours, you will be asked by your tour leader for your travel insurance details if they were not already added to your Traveller Hub account pre-departure.

If you have credit card insurance your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide may require details of the participating insurer/underwriter, the level of coverage, policy number, and emergency contact number rather than the bank's name and your credit card details. Please contact your bank for these details before arriving in-country.

Before you depart, you will be asked to submit your Travel Insurance details through the booking holder's Traveller Hub account through the Inspiring Vacations website. This is to ensure that we have this information readily available should we ever need it.

Health & Wellness

All travellers need to be in good physical health to participate fully on this tour. Our group tours are designed to immerse you in incredible sights and activities, often involving walking tours and self-exploration. To ensure you can fully embrace every moment, we recommend a moderate level of fitness for all of our tours.

When selecting your tour please make sure you have read through the itinerary carefully and assess your ability to manage and enjoy our style of travel. Please note that in the assessment of our Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader or local representative a traveller is unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group, we reserve the right to exclude them from all or part of a tour without refund.

You should consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information or for any necessary vaccinations before departure. We recommend that you carry a first aid kit as well as any personal medical requirements in their original packaging as they may not easily be obtained while travelling. If you are carrying medication, ensure you check your government's foreign travel advice for any local restrictions or requirements. For the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others, if you are unwell before travelling, please stay at home and contact us to make alternative arrangements and we would be more than happy to assist you.

Important Information for Customers with Mobility Limitations

We want to ensure everyone has a fantastic and inclusive experience on our tours. If you require the use of a mobility aid, such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair, please disclose this information at the time of booking.

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for the entire group, our tours are designed with a specific itinerary in mind. This may involve moderate walking, uneven terrain, or stairs. While some itinerary adjustments may not be possible, we'll do our best to find alternative solutions within the planned activities whenever possible.

Open communication helps us ensure your tour is a perfect fit and it allows your local guide or tour leader to assist you where possible.

Information for CPAP Users

If you use a CPAP machine, please let us know at the time of booking. If you use a CPAP machine, it is important to plan ahead when traveling to Cuba. Electricity can be unreliable, with occasional power outages, so consider bringing a portable battery backup to ensure uninterrupted use. Cuba operates on 110V and 220V with different plug types, so a universal adapter and voltage converter may be necessary depending on your device. Staying in casa particulares (private accommodations) may require confirming electrical compatibility in advance. Distilled water for humidifiers can be difficult to find, so bringing a supply or using bottled water as an alternative is recommended.

Documentation

Tour documentation is typically emailed to the lead passenger or your travel agent between 14-30 days before your scheduled departure. This will include your final hotel list.

Child policy

Children must be 5 years old or above and share a room with parents at all times. Children are charged the same price as adults.

Starting Point

Your starting hotel may differ from the original itinerary.  Please refer to your final documentation which will be provided approximately 14-30 days before departure for your confirmed hotel list. If you need to book pre-tour accommodation independently, we suggest you do this only once you have received your final hotel list for your tour. If you would like to book something sooner, we recommend that you book using a flexible rate that can be cancelled through your chosen third-party provider without penalty.

Travellers will arrive at various times throughout the day depending on flights booked. If arriving before standard check-in time, which is generally 3pm, you are welcome to leave your luggage at hotel reception and explore your surroundings until check-in becomes available as there are no scheduled activities on day 1 of the itinerary.  The hotel may grant early check-in, however this is strictly subject to availability and at the hotel’s discretion.

Note: if you need to apply for a tourist visa before departure, we recommend using the details of the suggested hotel on the tour itinerary if you wish to fulfil this before the release of your final tour documentation. Please refer to our visa section for more information on whether or not a visa is required for your destination.

Arrival Details

Airport transfers are included as part of your package, so long as you are arriving as per the purchased itinerary. If you have purchased an extension, either pre or post-tour, the applicable transfer service will be forfeited from your package and you will need to make your arrangements to the starting hotel.

Where the service remains included, on arrival look out for a representative holding an “Inspiring Vacations” sign or sign with your name on it after you have collected your baggage and exited customs. If you cannot find them, try to avoid wandering around and instead stay in one place and call the emergency contact number on your documentation.

Welcome Meeting Instructions

This evening, you’ll meet your tour leader and the rest of the group at La Gargola Guesthouse at 7pm for a tour briefing and an optional group dinner in Old Havana. If your Havana accommodation is at an alternative guesthouse to La Gargola, your tour leader will meet you at your guest house and accompany you on the short walk to La Gargola.

In Case of Emergency

Although we strive to deliver exceptional holiday experiences, unforeseen circumstances can occasionally arise during travel. This ensures they can take immediate action to address the problem and mitigate any negative impact on the remainder of your journey.

We understand that there may be instances where your tour leader or local representative is unable to resolve a situation to your satisfaction. In such cases, we encourage you to request that the tour leader or local representative escalate the matter to their direct manager for further assistance.

You also have the option to share details in your online feedback after the tour. However, please keep in mind that it's challenging for us to offer practical assistance once the tour is completed. Therefore, notifying us while still travelling allows us the chance to address the issue in real-time and provide a timely resolution.

When your final tour documentation is released, this will include an emergency contact for our local travel partner while you are on tour. If this is not included in your documentation, you will receive this on arrival during your welcome meeting.

Travelling in a group
Travelling in a group means you will experience both the pleasures and perhaps at times, some of the frustrations of travelling with people you don’t know. The good news is you all have at least one thing in common: a love of travel and exploration. Your fellow travellers will probably come from different parts of the world, and fall into different age groups. We ask you to be understanding of the various needs and preferences of your grouppatience with your fellow travellers is sometimes required for the overall benefit of the group.

We kindly ask that you are requested to be at a place at a certain time that you respect this request from your tour leader or local guide. Due to privacy reasons, we are unable to provide you with contact details and any personal information about your fellow travellers booked on your tour before departure.

Community Guidelines
Inspiring Vacations does not tolerate any kind of violence, harassment (whether physical, verbal or sexual), or disrespect toward fellow travellers, our teams (Inspiring Vacations Tour Leaders and local expert guides) or local communities.

Any behaviour that prevents your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader from continuing the itinerary as planned, breaks local laws or opposes any of these guidelines, may result in Inspiring Vacations removing you from the tour.

If something concerns you during your travels, please speak to your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader immediately. Alternatively, when you are on-tour and require immediate support you can contact our Customer Support team and select the “On-Tour” option when listening to the options.

Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader vs. Local Guide
While both tour leaders and local guides enrich your travel experience, their roles differ. Tour leaders, who often accompany you for the entire tour, handle logistics, ensure smooth sailing of the itinerary, and act as your point of contact for any concerns. They might provide general information about destinations, but in-depth historical or cultural knowledge often comes from local guides. Local guides, frequently native to the area, lead tours at specific sites or attractions, offering a deeper understanding of the local history, art, or way of life.

Coach Transportation
The size of your coach will comfortably accommodate your group. There's usually room for some extra seats, ensuring a relaxing journey. Your luggage will be safely stored either underneath the coach or in a dedicated trailer.

While the exact coach style may vary depending on the departure, all our coaches offer comfortable seating. Keep in mind that Wi-Fi and charging outlets might not always be available. To stay connected and avoid dead batteries,  we recommend fully charging your devices beforehand or bringing a portable charger.

For longer journeys, we'll make sure to include ample restroom breaks along the way, so you can freshen up and recharge at your convenience, as facilities are not on-board the coach.

Itinerary Changes
Sometimes, unexpected things can happen, like unpredictable weather or higher-than-usual crowds at attractions. In these situations, your tour leader might need to adjust the itinerary slightly to improve your overall experience.

This flexibility ensures you get the most out of your tour! Your tour leader will always keep you informed of any changes and explain the reasoning behind them. Remember, when travelling with a group, sometimes going with the flow can lead to even more amazing experiences.

Staying Connected
Internet is becoming increasingly available in Cuba, and costs are much lower than they used to be. However it is still much more difficult to access the internet in Cuba than in most other countries, and the vast majority of guesthouses do not have the facilities to offer WIFI.

There are WIFI points, however, at different places in all the cities visited by tourists, such as plazas, public areas, and in most hotels. WIFI cards that give you 1 hour access to the internet can be purchased in the hotels and at offices of the communication company ETECSA. These cost 25CUP each, however often these cards are sold out and locals make a business of offering them on the street for an inflated price which you can most likely pay in foreign currency. Some hotels sell them at higher prices or require you to buy a drink. We recommend you buy quite a few WIFI cards in Havana on the first days of your travels, as the cards are valid for use at WIFI points all over Cuba. Lines to buy them are usually long, or points of sale closed.

Getting Around
For all of our tours, we provide private transportation to ensure comfort, flexibility, and convenience throughout your journey. Depending on the size of the group, transport may be arranged in a taxi, minivan, or minibus. Using private vehicles allows us to set the most suitable departure and arrival times, as well as make interesting stops along the way to enhance your travel experience. None of the coaches have bathrooms, so periodic stops are made for the comfort of guests.

One of the highlights of our private transport service is the opportunity to interact with our dedicated driver, who typically remains with the group for the entire journey. While most drivers speak limited English, they often become an integral part of the travel experience, offering local insights and a friendly presence.

Cuba’s road network varies significantly in quality. While major highways, such as the Autopista Nacional (connecting Havana to central and eastern Cuba), are generally in good condition, secondary roads can be narrow, bumpy, and occasionally poorly maintained. Travellers should be aware that street lighting outside urban areas is limited, and road signage can be inconsistent. Additionally, it is common to encounter bicycles, horse-drawn carts, and pedestrians on rural roads.

By using private transportation with experienced local drivers, we ensure a safe and hassle-free journey, allowing you to enjoy Cuba’s scenic landscapes without concern for navigation or road conditions.

Accommodation Details
Comfort Guesthouses - This category is B & B in style, and cannot compare to the comfort levels of a modern western hotel. However every comfort room has modern air-conditioning, an ensuite bathroom, a window to the outside or to an interior courtyard with natural light, it also includes modern imported mattresses, and cold and hot water. While these are our minimum requirements for Comfort rooms, every Comfort casa is different, and has its own unique charms. Many rooms (but not all) have a security box, mini-bar fridge, and hair dryer. The guesthouses offer flexibility, local character, and opportunity to meet local families and everyday Cubans.

We will most likely use a number of different houses depending on the group size. Most guesthouses have 2-4 rooms for guests. For our tour groups, we chose one of the houses as a “Base House” or (central house) which typically has more rooms and a nice area for the group to meet. We use this house as an arrival and departure point for the group, and as a meeting point for any excursions or activities with the tour guide. Tour participants are distributed to different casas situated within a short walking distance of the Base House. Family members from those houses collect tour participants from the Base House. Typically between 1 and 4 group members will stay in each casa.

Packing Essentials
What you need to pack for your tour will vary according to the tour style you have chosen, the countries you are visiting and when you are travelling. We recommend you pack as lightly as possible, ensuring that you can carry and lift your luggage, and walk with it for short distances or up or down a flight of stairs.

A lockable suitcase with wheels is ideal for this tour. Many tours will include internal flights which often have luggage weight restrictions, and it is recommended that you keep your main luggage weight around 15kg and no more than 20kg. A small or medium-sized backpack (45-50 litres) is another good option. You'll also need a day pack/bag to carry water, a camera, a jacket, and your essentials while touring during the day.

Suggested packing list and things to consider for Cuba:

ESSENTIALS

  • Fleece top or similar
  • Sandals and footwear for walking
  • Small towel and swimwear
  • 4 shirts/t-shirts
  • Sun hat
  • 1-2 pairs of shorts
  • 1 pair of long trousers
  • Re-fillable water bottle
  • Toiletries (including soap)
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunblock
  • Insect repellant
  • Small flashlight or torch, small battery operated portable fan and portable power bank (in case of power outages)
  • First-aid kit (should contain lip salve, Aspirin, Band Aids, anti-histamine, Imodium or similar tablets for mild cases of diarrhea, and prescription drugs you may be taking as these items will not be available for purchase in Cuba)

OPTIONAL

  • Camera
  • Reading/writing material
  • Binoculars
  • Cover for backpack
  • Money-belt
  • Snorkelling gear and beach shoes
  • Healthy Snacks - If you are traveling with children or if you have special dietary requirements and like to eat snacks between meals, we recommend you bring your own snacks to Cuba, especially for travel days. Snacks are available in Cuba, however they may not be to your liking or as readily available as you'd like.

GIFTS FOR CUBANS
Cubans are delighted to receive gifts from foreigners even if they are items that you would consider throwing out at home. Second hand clothes are warmly accepted as gifts as they can be distributed among family members and friends. Soap, shampoo, perfumes, non-prescription medication (such as panadol), and pens or pencils are also very popular with Cubans. Inexpensive soap is readily available in Cuba if you intend to buy some as gifts. Used mobile phones are valued in Cuba and recently double-wall stainless steel portable water bottles have become very much desired objects.

Though they would be most happy to receive them, it is not necessary to bring gifts for your host families, as they are probably some of the more well-off families in Cuba and will be happy enough with just your good-natured presence. If you want to take gifts for your host families, perhaps something that they can use around the house or in the kitchen would be a well received and inexpensive gift - such as keyrings, place mats for the table, towels, etc.

DONATIONS
Donating large amounts of items in Cuba can be a little more complicated. Your tour guide will be the best person to help you with ideas on who to donate to, and how best to carry this out.

Here are a few suggestions on who you might like to donate to in Cuba...

  • The people employed in the guesthouses. That is, not so much the guesthouse owner but the people they pay to do the house work for them
  • The teachers and school principal of any schools you are able to visit during the tour
  • People working somewhere like one of the organoponicos (urban organic community vegetable gardens).

We suggest donating to people who are working for the government and with whom you have some sort of positive inter-action during your stay, rather than to random people on the street in Havana.

Climate
Cuba experiences a tropical climate with distinct seasonal variations. Summer (June to August) is the hottest time of the year, with temperatures reaching up to 100°F (38°C) in the eastern regions, often accompanied by high humidity. While the heat can be intense, summer is also one of the most festive periods, featuring carnivals and celebrations throughout the island. This season coincides with the European holiday period, making it a peak time for tourism. As a result, accommodations, flights, and tours tend to book up in advance, and prices can be higher.

Hurricane season runs from June to November, with the highest likelihood of storms occurring in September and October. While Cuba has an excellent hurricane preparedness system and prioritises tourist safety, storms can sometimes lead to disruptions in travel plans. Rainfall is more frequent during this season, though it typically comes in short afternoon bursts.

The coolest months are December to February, with average daytime temperatures around 77°F (25°C) and nighttime lows of 65°F (18°C). Occasional cold fronts from North America can bring temperatures down to 50°F (10°C) for brief periods, sometimes accompanied by rain.

For up-to-date weather conditions and storm activity, refer to the National Hurricane Centre at www.nhc.noaa.gov.

Currency and ATMs
The monetary situation in Cuba is quite complex. Cuba’s official currency is the CUP - Peso Cubano. Foreign currencies (especially USD and EUR) are also widely used. When travelling to Cuba, it is essential to plan ahead for payments and currency exchange. Here are some key recommendations:

  • Bring plenty of small bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) for easier transactions.
  • EUR and USD are the most widely accepted and useful foreign currencies.
  • Carry more cash than you think you'll need, as access to ATMs can be unreliable. To help plan we have some of the optional tours and costs listed in the itinerary and would suggest a budget of $8-$10USD per person for lunch and $15-$20USD per person for dinner.
  • Avoid exchanging money at banks, hotels, or exchange houses that use the official rate, as it may not be favourable.
  • Exchange only a small amount into Cuban Pesos (CUP) - your tour leader will be able to assist and advise best places to do this.
  • Convert any remaining CUP back to foreign currency before departure, as it can be difficult to exchange outside of Cuba.
  • Private businesses (such as taxis, guesthouses, bars, private restaurants, and small shops) typically prefer payment in foreign currency (USD, EUR).
  • State-operated sites (museums, parks, state-run restaurants, official sites, ETECSA, markets) require payment in CUP.
  • Regulations change frequently, so it is advisable to stay informed on current policies before and during your trip.

Food and Allergies
While travelling with Inspiring Vacations you'll enjoy iconic sightseeing, as well as experience the vast array of local cuisines. While many meals will be eaten together with your group, not all meals are included in your tour which gives you maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. If you have dietary requirements and/or food allergies, please let our Customer Support Team know before departure. Your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide will also be able to give suggestions on which restaurants to try during your tour.

Breakfast is included and it is usually eggs, cold cuts, bread, fruit, fruit juice, and coffee

In Havana included lunches and dinners will usually be in restaurants or at community projects, and will be a mix of international and Cuban cuisine

In the provinces, most included meals will be authentic local cuisine, in homes, farms, or restaurants

Havana has excellent vegetarian restaurants and many veg-friendly restaurants. Outside of Havana, vegetarian and vegan travellers may find the food limited and lacking variety; vegans especially are encouraged to bring snacks. Vegetarianism is new to local culture, common options are pizza, pasta, rice, beans, soups and vegetable sides

Local Customs
Cuba has a warm and welcoming culture, where friendliness and hospitality are highly valued. Greetings are typically warm, with handshakes or kisses on the cheek among friends. While Cubans are generally open and curious about visitors, it is important to be respectful when discussing politics, as opinions can be sensitive. Modest dress is recommended when visiting religious sites or rural areas. Bargaining is not common in most shops but may be acceptable in markets. Tipping is appreciated for good service, especially in the tourism industry. Learning a few basic Spanish phrases can go a long way in fostering positive interactions. Above all, embracing Cuba’s relaxed pace and engaging with locals will enhance your travel experience.

Responsible Travel Practises

  • Our tours spend little time in Havana so that tourism dollars are spread to other provinces
  • We use Cuban guesthouses instead of hotels
  • We favour activities that allow travellers to interact with locals and community projects rather than museums
  • We encourage eating at privately owned restaurants and in homes rather than government owned restaurants
  • We discourage the use of single-use plastics such as straws and plastic bags

Tipping Your Leader
During your tour, there may be opportunities to tip local service providers, including drivers and local guides. While tipping is entirely optional, it is a customary way to express appreciation for exceptional service. You should never feel obligated to tip, especially if the service did not meet your expectations.

Tipping can be done individually, or your tour leader may offer to collect contributions for a group tip. At the end of the tour, if you feel your tour leader provided outstanding service, a gratuity is also appreciated.

Suggested Tipping Amounts:

  • Local guides (for day trips or optional activities): $2–$5 USD per person
  • Tour leader and bus driver (for overall service during the tour): $3–$5 USD per person per day

While these amounts are suggestions, you are welcome to tip based on your experience and level of satisfaction.

Peak Travel Times
Easter, Christmas, and New Years periods are times of peak tourist activity in Cuba, when hotels, flights, and tours can be booked out well ahead of time. Prices for accommodation and tours can also increase markedly during these times.

Safety and Security
Most national governments provide regularly updated foreign travel advice on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your own government's advice for the most up-to-date travel information before departure and ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all destinations and activities on your tour.

Your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader or local representative will accompany you on all included activities listed on the itinerary, however, you'll have some free time to explore on your own. While your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide will assist you as best they can with your requests and the options available outside your itinerary, please note Inspiring Vacations makes no representations about the safety of the activity or the standard of the operators running the activity. Please use your judgement when selecting an activity in your free time.

Please also note that your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it's deemed necessary due to safety concerns.

Cuba is considered one of the safest destinations for travellers, thanks in part to strict law enforcement and severe penalties for crimes, particularly those involving tourists. The presence of a well-paid police force, especially in major cities and tourist areas, further enhances security. Additionally, there are no known terrorist threats to the country.

However, as with any travel destination, general safety precautions should be observed. While serious crimes against tourists are rare, petty crimes such as pickpocketing and bag-snatching can occasionally occur, particularly in crowded areas of Central Havana and Santiago de Cuba, especially at night. Visitors should also be aware of common tourist scams and approaches by jineteros (hustlers), which are more prevalent in high-traffic tourist areas.

Cuba’s economic conditions mean that many locals have limited financial resources compared to visitors. To ensure a smooth and respectful experience, travelers are advised to avoid openly displaying wealth. It is also recommended to carry only the necessary amount of cash, avoid carrying external bags when walking at night, travel in groups whenever possible, and use taxis for late-night transportation.

By following these simple precautions, visitors can enjoy a safe and memorable trip to Cuba.

Post-Tour Feedback
Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a link to a post-purchase survey, which is your opportunity to share your feedback with us on your booking experience and interactions with our Sales and Customer Success teams. This feedback is invaluable to ensure that we are servicing our customers to the best of our ability.

Furthermore, towards the end of your travels and while you are in your destination, you will receive an email from us with a link to an in-depth tour survey. It is very important to us that we hear from our customers to ensure that we continue to meet and exceed customers' expectations, so this will be your opportunity to let us know how your tour has been, what has worked well and potentially what could be improved.

Finishing Point
Your finishing hotel may differ from the original itinerary. Please refer to your final documentation which will be provided approximately 14-30 days before departure for your confirmed hotel list. If you need to book additional post-tour accommodation, please do so once you have the final hotel list. We recommend booking a flexible rate that can be changed or cancelled without penalty should there be any unforeseen changes to your booking.

Travellers will depart at various times throughout the day depending on flights booked. Check-out time is generally from 10am-12pm. You are welcome to leave your luggage at the hotel reception and spend your final moments of free time exploring the area or please speak with hotel staff if you would like to extend your check-out time. This service is subject to availability and will likely come at an additional cost payable directly.
