Chào Mừng! Welcome to Vietnam and Hanoi. You’ll be met on arrival at Hanoi airport and transferred to your hotel.
It’s no wonder Hanoi is fondly referred to as the cultural capital of Vietnam. With lots to do and see, it’s a fascinating mix of old and modern Vietnam. This afternoon enjoy a walk through Hanoi’s historic and lively Old Quarter district, a network of narrow alleys and shop houses.
The rest of the day is yours to explore this vibrant, teeming metropolis. You might like to visit the UNESCO-listed Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, or see the traditional ancient art form of water puppetry at Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. There are places to recuperate from the crowds and action, like tranquil Hoan Kiem Lake (Turtle Lake), a relaxing oasis on the southern edge of the old town quarter. West Lake, the biggest freshwater lake in Hanoi, is right in the centre of the city.
Please note: Some flights may depart the day before.
Check in: Passengers will be arriving at various times throughout the day from as early as 6am through to late evening. If arriving prior to standard check-in time, which is generally 3pm local time, you are welcome to leave your luggage with hotel reception and explore your surroundings until check-in becomes available, as there are generally no scheduled activities on Day 1 of the itinerary. The hotel may grant early check-in, however this is strictly subject to availability and at the hotels discretion.
We’ll start the day’s sightseeing with a visit to beautiful Van Mieu, or Temple of Literature. The template dates back to 1070, and is dedicated to the cult of Confucius. Note the peaceful series of walled courtyards and graceful gateways – this is one of the best examples of traditional Vietnamese architecture.
Visit the infamous Hoa Lo prison, built by the French colonial government in the late 19th century to house Vietnamese political prisoners. During the Vietnam War, it was used by North Vietnam, and dubbed the ‘Hanoi Hilton’ by American prisoners of war. Today, only part of the prison still exists as a history museum.
We’ll visit Ho Chi Minh Memorial Complex, containing a museum and Ho Chi Minh’s final resting place. Ho Chi Minh is undoubtedly one of the most important leaders Vietnam has ever seen and this is a place of pilgrimage for many Vietnamese. See the Ho Chi Minh Stilt House, the simple two-room dwelling where he lived from 1958 until his final days in 1969. Nearby, sitting in a lotus pond, view the miniature One Pillar Pagoda. It’s a reconstruction of the original 11th century temple.
Enjoy a walking tour through Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the oldest continuously developed area of Vietnam that showcases more than 1000 years of history. Explore the network of narrow alleyways known as the 36 Streets. Each street was named for the specialised trade of merchants with shops there, like silk traders or jewellery. This is a wonderful place to watch the local life, and peruse items from fabrics to crafts to exotic medicines.
Hanoi street life is crowded and hectic – with motorbikes whizzing by, just crossing the road can be an adventure. Hanoi is known for its street food and you’ll find vendors all over the city, especially in the Old Quarter. Don’t forget to try the local delicacies, whether it’s pho, sticky rice or banh mi.
Take a break at a local coffee shop to experience the popular Hanoi pastime of sipping coffee and watching life in the neighbourhood.
You’ll have the choice between 2 of 4 bonus sightseeing experiences to enhance your journey. You may choose to include 2 optional Inspiring Sights throughout your tour, free as part of your package.
Travellers can explore a bustling local market with a private chef who will guide you around the market, to demystify the local produce, explain the market culture and encourage you to taste some of its most exotic ingredients. After this tour you will return to to enjoy a 3 course traditional Vietnamese dinner, inclusive of one drink. This is a great opportunity to do more than ‘just have a meal’. It will be an authentic night to remember.
Starts: approx: 4.45pm
Duration: approx: 2 hours
Please note the start and duration times outlined are subject to change based on factors beyond our control such as traffic and weather conditions. Your Tour Guide will confirm operation times with you whilst on-tour and can answer any further questions you may have.
After breakfast we’ll depart for a leisurely drive to Haiphong and board our cruise at 12.30pm. Enjoy a complimentary drink and take a seat in the lounge before a short welcome briefing with fellow guests. Become acquainted with ship facilities and itineraries, ask any questions and get to know the staff.
Take some time to adjust to your luxurious floating home for the night. You’ll be shown to your room to unpack and enjoy the bedroom balcony view before freshening up for lunch. You’ll dine in style as the boat sets sail for the first attraction of the day, Lan Ha floating fishing village.
This quaint fishing village is a unique cultural attraction, a place to learn about the ancient sea-based lifestyle and heritage of the local people. Interact with the friendly communities whose livelihoods depend on these waters, and learn to fish in their traditional style.
Back on board you’ll have about an hour and a half of free time while we drift deeper into the tropical island complex. You may like to check out the panoramic sundeck, relax in your room or acquaint yourself with the bar. Then enjoy a cooking class and food carving lesson with the head chef, a typical feature of Vietnamese culinary culture. Watch in wonder as mere vegetables are carved into life, and try your hand at making a typical Vietnamese dish.
You’ll find a range of delicacies on offer for dinner, from salads to seafood to meat dishes and seasonal fruits and desserts. Happy hour follows dinner, and then the night is yours to relax or explore. There are board games, or try your hand at squid fishing with staff. Soak up the atmosphere and lounge on the sundeck, or you may even like to visit the luxury spa.
The day starts with a sunrise Tai Chi class on the sundeck as day breaks on the calm lagoon. Treat yourself to European-style pre-breakfast snacks with tea and coffee before we set sail to Ông Cậm (Ong Cam bay), a favourite spot in Lan Ha Bay. This breathtaking cove is the perfect morning chill-out spot, where you’ll have the choice of sunbathing, swimming or kayaking around the rocky shoreline.
Once we’re done on the beach, you’ll board the boat to enjoy a full breakfast buffet, including both international favourites and typical Vietnamese dishes like pho. After breakfast, relax on the deck enjoying the last bay views before we disembark. We’ll drive to Hanoi for the evening flight to Hue. You’ll be met at the airport and transferred by coach to your home stay.
First stop today will be a visit to the Hue Citadel, a relic of the Nguyen dynasty, then to Toa Kham Wharf where you’ll depart for Thien Mu Pagoda. A historic temple in the city of Hue, it’s relatively small but beautiful. The ornate buildings, pristine gardens and view onto the Perfume River are lovely.
We’ll get back on the boat for a scenic cruise to Hue Ecolodge and have two hours to stroll or bike around quiet Thuy Bieu Eco-village. Experience the atmosphere of a typical Vietnamese village as you visit the local garden, old ancestral temple and connect with local people. In this rustic setting, you’ll enjoy fresh country air and the village’s renowned fruit gardens and greenery. You can visit some handicraft families – such as incense making, joss paper making, or paper painting – to discover the daily life of these locals who work hard with joy and enthusiasm.
At the end of this tour you’ll have a chance to relax with the traditional therapeutic practice of steeping your feet in medicinal herb water and enjoying a foot massage.
This morning we’ll head for Ba Na Hills, a charming mountaintop resort complex that really does feel like a French village. On the way we’ll stop at a fishing village near Lang Co Beach, and at dramatic Hai Van Pass to admire the spectacular views. Hai Van is the high dividing line between the climate zones of north and south Vietnam.
In Ba Na Hills, the cable car is one of the most impressive in the world. At 5.81km, it’s the world’s longest single-rope cable car system, and also boasts the highest difference between departure station and arrival station – 1368m. The panoramic mountain views are beautiful.
Arriving at the first cable car station, we’ll visit a French wine cellar, explore the golden bridge, Linh Ung Pagoda and Fantasy Park. Ling Ung Pagoda is at an altitude of nearly 1500 metres and is home to a 27-metre tall statue of Shakyamuni Buddha that looks forward to the city. Fantasy Park is just what the name suggests, an amusement park that offers games and activities for all ages.
After a buffet lunch, we’ll continue to explore the King Peak for panoramic views of Da Nang city and beyond.
You’ll stay in Ba Na Hills tonight. Take an evening walk to enjoy the heart of this old French village.
You’ll have free time in charming Ba Na Hills today.
There are many restaurants and places to explore, so it’s best to start early to see all the sights. You may like to visit the wax statue museum, or see the famous golden bridge again. This architectural feat is a footbridge supported by two huge stone-coloured hands, which seem to be emerging from the thick forest. Take a stroll through the dreamy Le Jardin D’Amour with nine different flower gardens, each representing a different theme.
In the afternoon we’ll take the cable car back down and drive to Da Nang. On the way we’ll visit Son Tra Peninsula, with its white sandy beaches, evergreen forest and pretty landscapes.
Da Nang is known for its nightlife and is home to several casinos, bars and clubs. It’s not all about partying, the food options here are plentiful, too. You’ll have free time to explore this hotspot.
We’ll drive to the ancient port town of Hoi An this morning. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hoi An is often described as a place where time stood still. One of the best places to discover genuine Vietnamese architecture, be sure to stop and enjoy the traditional houses, pagodas and bridges.
Stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets of the Old Quarter, or spend time mingling with local vendors at the Hoi An Night Market. Cars and motorbikes are banned from the centre of Hoi An so it’s a pleasant city to explore on foot. The city is charming and colourful, known as the city of lanterns for the ubiquitous colourful lanterns fluttering in the breeze.
You won’t have any problem looking for things to do on your free day in Hoi An. If you need to relax, visit An Bang Beach or Cua Dai Beach. Or you can visit a tailor’s shop to have something made – the city is renowned for tailoring and turnaround is usually quick.
The Japanese Covered Bridge is a must-see. Built in the 17th century, it’s well preserved and resembles a Japanese pagoda. It’s covered with ornate coverings depicting animals.
You may like to visit foodie destination Central Market, a large riverside market. Hoi An is known for its diverse food – look out for Cao Lau, Hoi An’s signature dish of pork broth, noodles and vegetables (check).
You’ll have the choice between 2 of 4 bonus sightseeing experiences to enhance your journey. You may choose to include 2 optional Inspiring Sights throughout your tour, free as part of your package.

A short drive to Da Nang airport today then a flight to Can Tho. You’ll be met and transferred to town. While still a busy city, it’s famous for its complex waterways and lush fruit orchards. It’s an agricultural hub, so the local food is fresh and cheap. We’ll visit Cantho market and Ninh Kieu Harbour.
After dinner, check out the sparkling lights of this city with a walk into town by the river.
It’s worth getting up early today for a boat trip to visit Cairang floating market, fruit farms and Binh Thuy ancient house. The floating market is a must-see in this region, with fresh produce, coffee and even pho being sold from boats.
The drive to Ho Chi Minh City takes about five hours. On arrival, we’ll take a short walking tour to get acquainted with the city and then check into the hotel.
A feast for the senses, Ho Chi Minh City is interesting, vibrant and moves at a frenetic pace. There are well-preserved colonial structures and war relics from the devastating Vietnam War. At the Reunification Palace, see where the first communist North Vietnamese tanks crashed through the gates in April 1975, resulting in Saigon’s official surrender.
Being Vietnam’s largest city, there are plenty of shopping options, ranging from high-end, to major department stores and bustling markets.
Every stop on this tour offers exciting food but here you’ll find downright daring dishes – like deep-fried snake or barbecued scorpion. But don’t worry, all your favourites are here. The city loves its street food with great food on every block. Banh mi, pho, the crispy savory snack banh xeo, noodle soups like bun rieu and of course banh cuon, best described as noodle-wrapped spring rolls. Coffee is a national obsession in Vietnam and iced coffee is a must, a dark roast sweetened with condensed milk poured over ice.
You’ll have the choice between 2 of 4 bonus sightseeing experiences to enhance your journey. You may choose to include 2 optional Inspiring Sights throughout your tour, free as part of your package.
