Arrive in Perth to your CBD hotel, within walking distance of many great restaurants and bars. Explore Western Australia’s beautiful capital city on the banks of the Swan River.
Experience a great day out exploring the world-famous Pinnacles Desert and other amazing coastal landscapes. We stop en route at the seaside town Lancelin for morning tea. Next is an informative visit to the Pinnacles Desert Discovery Interpretive Centre. We drive into the Pinnacles Desert along a four kilometre trail where you will have the unique experience of walking among the fascinating phenomenon of the Pinnacles. The Pinnacles Desert contains thousands of limestone pillars, resembling an ancient ruin. In geological terms, the Pinnacles are a modern phenomenon, beginning to form as recently as three and a half million years ago, and appearing as they are today between two million and twenty thousand years ago. We enjoy lunch at Cervantes before a drive to Thirsty Point to walk along the beautiful white sandy beaches to view sparkling aquamarine waters and the nearby islands. We then visit Lake Thetis to view the Stromatolites, one of the earliest forms of life on our planet, and another of nature’s wonders. We return to Perth at approximately 4:30pm.
Explore the city at your own pace today. King’s Park and Botanic Gardens is an absolute must, with one of Australia’s most iconic city views. Check out the Bell Tower and Elisabeth Quay or simply stroll along the Esplanade watching the activity of the Swan River. You can ride four free busses around the centre of town – the buses are colour coded and route maps are available at the Tourist Information Centres and hotels. Another fantastic alternative is a visit to the wineries and gourmet food producers of the Swan Valley.
After breakfast we will pick you up in a small bus, to begin a 4-day touring adventure of Margaret River and the south-west corner of WA. Our first stop is Busselton Jetty which is about 2.5hrs south of Perth. Busselton is a chilled holiday town with pristine Indian Ocean beaches and a 19th-century wooden Jetty which extends nearly 2km out to the ocean. It is the southern hemisphere’s longest, and an impressive sight.
From Busselton we will follow the coast round to Cape Naturaliste and visit some of it’s beautiful beaches with Meelup Beach being a highlight. We will also check out the lighthouse precinct and Sugarloaf Rock Lookout to see this massive granite island. We will fill the afternoon picking out spots on the coast before heading to the town of Margaret River to check into our motel. Enjoy dinner in the evening with our new friends at the Margaret River Motel.
Today we will spend the day exploring the natural side of the Margaret River region. Known mainly for it’s wineries and delicious gourmet produce, Margaret River also boasts a spectacular coastline. Perfect white sand beaches, limestone cliffs and deep red granite boulders that beg to be explored.
We will allow time to drop into the famous Cape to Cape walk trail to access some of the more spectacular sites along the coast. While the walking is not hugely demanding, there will be some walking on uneven surfaces for up to an hour or so at a time. A highlight is standing on top of the Wilyabrup sea cliffs, and walking through the tranquil Boranup Karri Forest. For tours in summer we can take a swim at Hamelin Bay. We will pack everything we can into this memorable day out in nature before heading back to our motel, where you can walk into town for an evening meal from one of the many restaurants.
Wine and indulgence are the order of the day! We start a bit later today, with the opportunity to stroll into town for a coffee and a look around. With over 100 wineries in Margaret River we will pick out the best, quaintest and quirkiest. There are some famous names that we cannot miss such as Leeuwin Estate, and Voyager Estate but there are also many smaller boutique producers with fantastic wines and beautiful grounds. The beer lovers will not be forgotten as we will stop at the Cheeky Monkey Brewery for lunch (not included), and we won’t forget about the chocolate fans either.
After breakfast, we will leave Margaret River and head to one of the local limestone Caves. This stunningly decorated cave was Western Australia’s very first tourist attraction. By mid afternoon, we will arrive in Fremantle and check you into the centrally located and well presented Esplanade Hotel, for 2 nights.
With ‘Freo’ at your doorstep, there is no end to the nightlife options available. The original Little Creatures Brewery is in view of the hotel, as is the fishing boat harbour which must be the epicentre of Australia’s “Fish and Chip industry”. There are many small bars, quirky restaurants and cafes within walking distance of your hotel. Enjoy a night on the town in one of Australia’s coolest and bohemian towns.
It is about a 10 minute walk from your hotel to B Shed ferry, where you can jump on the 30 minute boat ride over to the perfect island paradise, that is Rottnest Island. After a coffee, it is customary to try to grab a Quokka selfie. These little marsupials have the title of “World’s Friendliest Animals” and are an absolute delight for young and old. If you are feeling energetic, bicycles are a great way to explore the island. You can whip around the island in a couple of hours or take the whole day to explore the many swimming bays and snorkelling spots. If you are feeling like less physical exertion, there is a hop on hop off bus, which constantly rotates around the island and is another way to explore until your heart is content. Take the afternoon ferry back to Fremantle and enjoy one final night in Western Australia’s cultural capital.
Enjoy your final day at leisure in Fremantle.
Today your Southwest WA discovery comes to an end. At the appropriate time, make your own way to the airport for your onward flight.
